Give it meaning! - Skype Meeting 5/3
Today's meeting was a helpful follow up from some of the confusion in Tuesday meeting. Yesterday, as I sat with some of the questions, and looked over the rough sketch I have accumulated, I came up with an important piece of the puzzle which is: What I'm going to do with the data. Now, I haven't fully developed my method of analyzing it yet, however, I've decided I will be publishing an article (or filming a vlog) about my key findings in my inquiry of: How to become an essential part of a creative team. I'll be carefully triangulating between my own experience, the literature I've reviewed, and the data from the participants in my surveys.
My main takeaway from today is: Qualitative research is not just a retelling. We must give it meaning! In other words, we're not just collecting data and displaying the data as is. We have to put ourselves INTO the mix, explaining why it's important to our particular practice, and what change or development it will bring in our thinking and doing as we move forward in our careers.
I've boiled it down to two words: PRACTICAL APPLICATION.
In thinking of the "what" this way going forward, I believe it will help me personally establish the usefulness and reasoning for collecting the data in the first place.
In your experience, what are important factors to consider when collecting data / being in conversation with other individuals in your field of practice?
